 | Featured Restaurant - Chiado |
Once in your life you'll walk into a restaurant that will be the measuring stick for any other restaurant you visit for the rest of your life.
Chiado is this restaurant.
From the second you drive up, there is valet service if you want it, but plenty of parking along College St. if you like.
As you walk in, the warmest fireplace is blasing on your left next to the complimentary coat check. The friendliest staff takes your coat/jacket and walks you to your table.
If you are a seafood eficionado, you'll love the fish and seafood that is flown in from portugal the same day. I happened to have the skate on risotto that was unbelievably fresh and flavourable. My appetizer was tiger shrimp in piri piri sauce. These shrimps were the biggest Ive ever seen served this side of the atlantic. For drinks, there is no North American beverages served here, only Portuguese wine and beer...
The waiter service out does any other restaurant in Toronto. Napkins folded on your lap, crumbs scraped from your table, it seems as though service to table is 1/1 ratio and you are very well attended to.
Desert was courtesy Matthew Naranjo, one of the waiters there and was a plate of fruits and cheescake with berries and cream that Ive never seen anywhere near the presentation we received. Not sure if it was because I was there, or if they do this kind of service to everyone but it definitely had me floored.
Without a doubt, Chiado is my number 1 restaurant in the city of Toronto. If you want to impress anyone, take them to Chiado. You wont be disappointed. Albino Silva is the artist and Chiado is the canvas...

 | Level Opening First Week of July. |
Any large dance club that opens these days needs to be able to boast about a state-of-the-art sound system and "intelligent lighting" in addition to the usual claims about numerous dance floors, bars and VIP areas. And, if you want to attract high rollers and ballers (professional or otherwise), the more upscale the decor, the better.
For all the buzz about lounge seating, coat checks and espresso bars, Level won't disappoint the people who just want to come and dance until the wee hours of the morning.
Watch for a July 7th Opening with B&A and Ryan B from Bounce on Friday nights.

 | Blowfish Restaurant Review |
The King West strip needs another trendy resto-lounge like a fish needs a typewriter. Then again, there's always room for more "Are-You-Hot?" buff boys and bottle-blondes. But if you think Blowfish is just another hotspot for Toronto's beautiful people, you're wrong. For starters, the menu effortlessly fuses traditional Japanese ingredients with classical French and pan-Asian influences. For another, the room is considerably more intimate than its tony competitors.

Tiesto-Just Be: CD review By: Mike H. Maturine.
The name is synonymous with trance music and his albums are no strangers to success, garnering numerous accolades in the dance music industry. So you would think that his music had reached its peak and could not get any better, well on his new album Just Be Tiesto shows fans the artist side of the world's no 1 DJ. Just Be proves to be a work of art for Tiesto who choose to make this new album from an artist proppective. Tracks like Love Comes Again featuring BT, proves to be a very powerful track trance tracks with BT's vocals has made it very popular on Just Be. Traffic, a harder trance track is also one of Tiesto's masterpieces. When I popped Just Be in the CD my player Traffic was the first one I went for, the song had sent me into an absolute frenzy. Now what makes this new album even more distinct than other work of Tiesto is Kirsty Hawkshaw's vocals which can be heard in Just be and Walking on Clouds. Just Be proves to be very melodic and incorporation of a superub vocalist like Hawkshaw and BT, Tiesto in truly versatile as an artist, DJ and producer.

 | Smoking is now banned in Toronto's Bars and Nightclubs |
Smoking is now banned in Toronto's Bars and Nightclubs.
As of this passed weekend, All bars, billiard halls, bingo halls, casinos and racetracks must be smoke-free, except in a designated smoking room no larger than 25% of the public space (50% allowance for bingo halls). Many nightclubs in Toronto are already feeling the pinch as people approach the establishment, ask if they can smoke inside and turn around and look for the next venue when they are told they can't. Nightclubs without patios such as Fluid Lounge located in downtown Toronto have their work cut out for them as patrons choose to go to clubs with patios. Skybar, Therapy, Mink and Afterlife are enjoying an increase in attendance already seen after the first week.

Armin Van Buuren: A State of Trance 2004 by : CD review By:
Mike H. Maturine.
The man has been around long enough to write his names in the history
books of trance music. Time after time he has delivered hard hitting
trance hits that have mystified listeners of all ages alike. He was
recently nominated for the DanceStar 2004 Best New Artists Album for
76, Armin's debut artist album. His continuous success has transpired
into his latest compilation, A State of Trance 2004. The double CD
set takes you into the world of Armin Van Buuren and his ability to
produce trance tracks that appeal to fans of all ages. The album is
slated to be released on May 4th and is expected not to disappoint
fans of Armin. I got a chance to listen to the CD and it s absolutely
Armin at his best. There are one or two vocal trance tracks on the
CD which gives the track listening some depth. This double CD compilation
is stacked with the some of the best trance tracks you will be hearing
in the clubs in 2004. Canada, get ready for trance like you have never

A Trip in Trance 3 CD review By: Mike H. Maturine.
As a trance enthusiast I was delighted at the release of this CD which
I was anticipating would match up to its predecessors. When I put
in the first of this 2 CD compilation I was not the least bit surprised
at the quality of the tracks. Even before you pop it in you can tell
A Trip in Trance 3 is filled with some of the hard hitting trance
beats that fill the clubs in Europe. The front cover highlight remixes
by Ferry Corsten and Darren Tate which lets you know that you are
about to embark on an experience in trance like no other. |

House music has been without a doubt one of the most diverse genres in dance music. It has so many sub-genres which has enable house to have so many characteristics, it keeps fans and listeners wanting more out of the genre and wanting to see what else djs and producers can come up with next. Locally house music has produced some strong names who have given the genre such a strong hold on the club scene in Toronto. One man, Nick Fiorucci has contributed a wealth of his talent to the house music scene as a producer, mixer and DJ and on A Trip in House, his talent truly shines. The CD is stacked with house music that is sure to get the listener pumped. With songs like Make Luv ( Axwell Remix ) by Room 5 and solid house djs like Robbie Riviera this compilation is a collection of great house tracks that can fire up any club dance floor. It doesn't matter how many dance compilations you buy in a given year.
It doesn't matter what track listening it may contain and it doesn't
matter who makes it . What matters is that every year about this time
in February dance music's strongest supporters will be flock music
stores to by the most illustrious, most famed dance music compilation,
Euromix. This year will be no different as Euromix X(10) will grace
the walls of record stores on Tuesday February 24th.. |

The Annual 2004 Presented by the Ministry Of Sound By: Mike
H. Maturine.
In a given year there are so many songs that stand out; the production,
catchy lines, beats that get you moving but only a selected few make
it on the Ministry of Sounds' The Annual compilations. The Annual
2003 included tracks like Heaven by DJ Sammy and Divine Inspiration.
The Annual 2004 follow-up picks up where last years' compilation left
off: with some of the year's best dance anthems. These songs are slated
to make their mark on the dance music scene and having been filling
the airwaves across Europe. |

 | The Twilight Zone: How 80s Fashion has still captivated us in 2004 by Euroman |
Fashion in the city has truly taken on a retro look with the kickboxing shoes as a prime example. Reebok, Puma and Miss Sixty are all capitalizing on this fashion frenzy and the demand seems to keep pouring in. I spoke to Willie, a Sales Associate at the Change Room on Queen Street about the kickboxing shoe style and why it is so popular. He mentioned that people wanted comfort but also with the boot look to it and that's why the kickboxing shoes made such a splash. What makes the style even so common is that people usually wear it with jeans and they tuck it inside the jeans, which is the in style for wearing kickboxing shoes. The grunge look is also a big fashion style now and bigger than before and trucker hats is a good addition to the look even though the entire trucker hat effect is somewhat played out.

 |
 |
Who will be The Big Names Representing Dance Music at the 2004
Juno Awards? by EuroMan.
So what does Sound Blunts and Hatiras have in common with each other?
The answer would be 2003 and 2002 Juno Award winners for Best Dance
Recording. Space Invader if you remember was a raga track turned house
by Hatiras and sky rocketed world wide. Billie Jean the remake of
the Michael Jackson classic won the award in 2003. The nominees for
2003 in this category must also be credited for their hard work and
the great tracks which allowed them to be candidates. Original 3 which
are one of the most talked about groups and their claim to fame was
bolstered by Sunglasses at Night, the remake of the Corey Hart original.
MC Mario, Grand Menage and Boomtang also made the nomination list.

 |
The Sunday Night Silence has been Broken Review by EuroMan.
It was always believed that a Sunday night epitomizes that of silence
and relaxation. A night that everyone stays home, lay back and get
ready for another week on the job. That Ideology has long been thrown
out the window and Sunday nights are now marked by clubs with long
lineups and people not worrying one bit about working the day after.
People would dare stay out until 3 or even 4 am with the intention
of going to work for 9 am. Crazy you may call it but it is that growing
trend in club culture that has clubs like Fluid Lounge becoming immensely
popular on a Sunday night. |

N.Y.C Underground Party Vol. 6 Review by EuroMan.
Ever since the first N.Y.C underground party I have been hooked on
this compilation. It has become very popular New York City. Louie
Devito is a renowned DJ in New York City and the U.S. and N.Y.C Underground
Compilation CDs have made him a house hold name for clubbers. The
latest addition to his repertoire is the N.Y.C. Underground Party
Volume 6. Once again Louie Devito shows us why he has one of the best
selling dance compilations in the U.S. The track selections are tastefully
done and each song corresponds with each other as the transition is
made. |
